Seafood Producers Cooperative (SPC) is a fishermen-owned co-op based in Sitka, Alaska. Our retail brand name is Alaska Gold Brand.
As a fishermen-owned co-op, our fishermen put great pride into their work. SPC has been sustained by quality for over 80 years. Quality starts with what fishermen do on their boats. Once their fish gets landed the only thing our processing plant crew can do is screw up that quality. Our unsung heroes in our Sitka plant put a tremendous amount of pride into ensuring you get great Alaska Gold quality every time.
We have a very loyal crew led by Ruben Torres who started at the bottom on the slime line cutting heads off black cod and has worked his way up to Plant Manager. As he notes in this brief video, our crew is "born on the floor," working their way up to higher positions.
Ruben and his loyal crew embody our co-op's pride. Starting at 5am every day, Ruben gets his crew to work together like a family to ensure that our customers get the best wild-caught seafood available.
The next time you sit down for a meal, thank a food worker. These are the people who work to put food on people's plates and they are the people making the world go around.
It takes a lot of pride and perseverance to make what we do possible. And this co-op is built on the pride that that Ruben and his crew exemplify.
