Lindsay Johnson is a troller fishing for king salmon and coho salmon on the F/V Sika. Salmon trollers fish with hook and line for wild salmon. Fishing with hook and line makes for a high-quality product because each fish is handled indivually. Each salmon is gutted and bled as it comes on to the boat and then chilled within minutes after catch. Trolling is less capital intensive than other fisheries in the sense that it does not require big investments or a big crew, as Lindsay explains in the video. But this makes for much work by hand. And during the peak of coho salmon season, it can be a real grind. She also talks about being a member of our fishermen-owned co-op in this video.
